Ground Beef Recall

Fairbank Farms of Ashville, New York has recalled over 500,000 pounds of ground beef that was produced in September after discovering the meat was “possibly linked” to E. coli. Escherichia coli is a potentially-lethal bacteria commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms. While some E. coli strains are harmless, others such as the type O157:H7 can cause very serious food poisoning in humans. The recalled meat does, indeed, have this dangerous strain of E. coli according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Cases of E. coli have been reported in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts at the time of this writing.

E. coli poisoning can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and kidney failure. The tainted meat has been sold at:

ACME
BJ's
Ford Brothers
Giant Food Stores
Price Chopper
Shaw's
Trader Joe's
