Police Brutality Deters Aspiring Cop
Personal injury cases can have a lot of repercussions. One such case, which involves accusations of police brutality, seems to have caused a change in career plans.
The father of a Union City, New Jersey criminal justice student says that he has videotape evidence proving that police reacted too aggressively to a situation involving his son. He also says 18-year-old Marco Basualdo Jr. no longer wants to pursue his career dream of being ... a police officer.
Earlier this month, according to news media, the young Basualdo and friends were walking home at about 1 a.m. when they began running down the street. Police approached them and told them to stop.
The young man obeyed, but his father says the police dragged and beat his son after he obeyed.
A surveillance video from a nearby business confirms that young Basualdo dropped to the ground after a policeman on a bicycle caught up with him. Another officer then arrived and forced the teen to the ground before handcuffing him. And a third policeman came, and was filmed on video burying his knees in the youth’s back.
The father says his son suffered facial bruises and has suffered nosebleeds and pain in the neck and back since the incident. He also said his son has become afraid of police.
The local police chief said his officers were responding to a burglary call when they saw the three teens running from the scene.
