High Profile Medical Malpractice Case in Las Vegas
Recently in Las Vegas, Nevada, two colonoscopy clinics were involved in a medical malpractice case. In an act of gross negligence, thousands of former patients were exposed to Hepatitis C from contaminated medical equipment. These clinics did not properly take care of and clean their equipment, which resulted in 100 of these patients developing the disease.
Due to the size and seriousness of this case, the Nevada Assembly has removed the cap on damages typically in effect for medical malpractice cases. The supporters of this bill argue that the removal of the damages cap in cases involving gross medical negligence will ensure that high standards of care will be maintained. Also, there is the hope that medical professionals will report medical malpractice and negligence committed by their colleagues.
Medical malpractice may occur for several reasons such as:
- Overcrowded Emergency Rooms
- Prescription Errors
- Failure to Diagnose
- Early Discharge of a Patient
- Surgical Errors
- Anesthesia Malpractice
