Prescription Pad: Lifesaver or Killer? Medical Malpractice May Have Contributed to Jackson’s Death

Could the death of music icon, Michael Jackson, be the result of medical doctors unethically and illegally prescribing drugs in excessive amounts or even under false names to enable the music legend to feed his alleged addiction to narcotics? As the investigation into the star’s death progresses, disturbing information regarding his medical treatment is coming to light. However, Michael is not the first star to succumb to bad (or even criminal) medical treatment.

Doctors’ testimony and medical records have been subpoenaed in other cases related to celebrities overdosing or dying due to drug-related causes such as cardiac arrest. One of Anna Nicole Smith’s medical doctors, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and her psychiatrist, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, are both facing several felony counts related to providing prescriptions to the model/actress prior to her death in February 2008. Her attorney/boyfriend toward the end of her career, Howard K. Stern, is facing similar criminal charges.

Also, Heath Ledger’s body was allegedly found in his New York apartment surrounded by numerous bottles of prescription medication. The investigation into his January 2008 death is also ongoing. How many other stars have been provided narcotics by their physicians over the years? How many celebrities have died because their doctors simply could not say "no" when it came to doling out the pills? Not only are these acts unethical; they are criminal. All three of these cases may be considered wrongful deaths, and civil suits alleging medical malpractice may be filed (or already have been in some cases).

We are supposed to trust our physicians and believe they have our best interests at heart. We put our lives in their hands, literally. However, we hear countless reports of doctors abusing their script-writing privilege and enabling their patients to remain addicted to drugs.

If you have been affected by medical malpractice, you probably haven’t received the attention these celebrities have; however, your life and the lives of your loved ones are just as valuable as theirs. You deserve to have your case be heard, and you deserve to have the best legal team available on your side.

If your loved one has suffered due to medical malpractice, or if a family member has died due to medication malpractice, please contact The Cochran Firm, with offices nationwide, today.
