Woman Suffered Personal Injury Due to a Large Rodent in Metairie

A woman was shopping in a Wal-Mart store in Metairie, Louisiana when a Nutria ran out from behind a Coca-Cola rack and scared her. She tried to pull her cart away from the large semi-aquatic rodent, but ended up pulling the heavy cart over her foot in her panicked state. She broke several bones in her foot and fell backwards unconscious from the scare. She was transported to a local hospital for immediate care and required surgery.

The woman's lawyers are demanding compensation for:

  • Pain and Suffering
  • Mental Anguish and Fear
  • Disabling Injuries
  • Necessary Medical Expenses
  • Lost Time at Work
  • Other Related Damages

The Wal-Mart employees have stated that the Nutria is the store mascot and would not hurt anyone. A Nutria resembles a combination of a large rat and a beaver. The supposedly tame animal was mistaken by the women as a disease-carrying rat and, thus, scared her into injury.
